Let's be honest, nobody likes running! And I do mean no one. I'm an athlete and running was woven in every part of my life and I still hate running. And still, it is something that has to be done so why not learn to love it. So I'll share some of the tips that helped me get improve my running and helped me peaked my interests.
The first thing you should do is pace yourself. It isn't the best idea to just take off running in full speed. Start slow and find a pace that best suits you. This will be at a speed that you can comfortably control your breathing, are able to push a little harder and have a sensible stride.
Also, don't just jump right into running, learn to set goals. First, you make a long-term goal and then several short-term goals; this is what I call a running plan. An example of a long-term goal would be aiming to run/jog 1 mile (or 4 to 8 laps depending on the size of the track) in 10 minutes. Short-term goals would be completing specific distances in short time periods and being able to run from a starting point to a stop sign or tree that is a 50 yards away.
What else can you think of?
I'm not the biggest fan of running but I was a member of the track team in both Jr. High and High School. I also incorporate running in my day to day workout sessions.
